You’ll never leave your 9 to 5.

I can promise you that.

Unless you do this…

The problem:

You've thought about leaving your job (A LOT), but it’s always felt too risky and not financially feasible.

The benefit of solving it:

A vague, scary unknown becomes one concrete number you can act on and plan around.

Why what you've tried has failed:

You've never actually done the math and worked out how many clients it would take to replace your salary.

Here's how to solve it:

Turn your salary into a monthly number.

Say your salary is $60,000.

$60,000 / 12 = $5,000 a month.

Now pick how many projects a month you could actually take on, and divide.

4 a month: $5,000 / 4 = $1,250 each.

2 a month: $5,000 / 2 = $2,500 each.

1 a month: $5,000 / 1 = $5,000 each.

Each of those numbers is the least a project can pay for you to replace your salary at that pace.

I call that your floor.

That floor also has to cover what it costs you to do the work.

Software, gear, anything you pay for gets spread across those same projects.

(This sounds complicated, but it’s pretty straightforward. I get more into how to price your services in this post here.)

Then look at how much time you have in a work week…

Half your time goes to client delivery, and the other half goes to finding the next client.

Will that many projects fit inside the delivery half of your week?

If not, you need fewer, bigger projects.

Work this math with YOUR salary and YOUR pace and see if freelancing is really as unrealistic as you thought.

Hit reply and let me know what your number comes out to.

Best,
Jamie
