When clients treat you like you work FOR THEM…

And not like a partner working WITH THEM…

It’s your fault.

You’re making key communication mistakes that seem harmless.

But they actually say to the client “I’m basically a rookie” →

The problem:

The things you say to clients at the moments that matter (booking, checking in, quoting, claiming results), costing you money and respect.

The benefit of solving it:

Clients take you seriously, say yes, and treat you as a strategic partner.

Why what you’ve tried has failed:

Softening every line to stay likeable and non-confrontational makes it appear that you’re not sure.

Here’s how to solve it:

Say the right things at the right moments and clients start treating you (and paying you) like the strategic partner you are.

"Let me know when you're free…" is vague and kicks off a slow back-and-forth that goes nowhere fast.

It’s better to give them something concrete to answer to: "I have Tuesday from 2-4pm open, does that work for you?".

"Is this okay?" asks for permission and invites a polite yes without the real doubts or questions being addressed.

"What questions do you have?" assumes the work is solid and opens the door to hearing their actual concerns, so you can address them.

A promise like "I'll increase your revenue by 40%" only holds up if you control every variable in their business (and you don't).

"My clients typically see X happen within Y timeframe" is more believable cuz the proof is already inside it.

Saying "I'm flexible" right after you quote a number gives the client a reason to push back BEFORE they've even decided whether to say yes.

Say the number and just stop talking.

I know that silence can feel uncomfortable, but it actually shows your confidence in your work and pricing.

If they say that’s outside their budget, you can ask what they have set aside and trim the scope to fit.

Communication tweaks like this show you’re a serious and experienced business owner.
