The growth hack MOST freelancers overlook (except you)

When you think about growing your freelance business, what comes to mind?

Maybe building your portfolio, refining your pitch, or creating content to attract new clients…

But here’s something most freelancers overlook →

Your clients’ networks/customer bases are packed with potential opportunities.

And if you’re not leveraging them, you’re leaving money on the table.

Think about it…

You’re doing incredible work for your clients.

What if the work you’ve already done could start bringing in new opportunities FOR you?

The problem:

You only focus on your own network when it comes to growing your business.

The benefit of solving it:

Every project you complete brings way more than just money – like new leads, fresh collaborations, and increased visibility for your business.

Why what you’ve tried has failed:

You focus solely on your own network/leads and aren’t tapping into fresh audiences who are primed to trust you because someone they already trust has worked with you (AKA your client).

Here’s how to solve it

Hack your clients’ network for your own business growth (and maybe land your next big project) with my 3 recommendations:

#1 Ask for Referrals

Your satisfied clients are your best advocates, so after a successful project, ask them if they know anyone who might need similar work done.

Keep it short and simple, like this:

Hey [client’s name], I loved working on [project name] with you. If you know anyone else who might need help with [specific service], feel free to forward them this email.

[a sentence or two about the benefit of working with you].”

You want to make it as easy as possible for your client to refer you, so make this email concise and very forward-able!

Personal referrals carry a lot of weight and can get your foot in the door with new potential clients.

#2 Feature Your Work Publicly

You definitely want to showcase the project you completed for your client through things like case studies, testimonials, or even behind-the-scenes looks on your website and social media.

But it’s even better to ask your client to share the work with their own audience and tag you.

If they’re proud of what you’ve delivered, they’ll likely be happy to give you that shout-out, which qualifies you and gets you in front of their audience too!

#3 Collaborate on Co-Branded Projects

If your client has a blog, podcast, or newsletter, pitch a guest feature where you can share your expertise.

For example, if you created a killer website for them, suggest writing a blog post or doing a podcast episode about the process.

These collaborations help you tap into their audience while also reinforcing their credibility – so it’s a win-win.

By aligning your brand with your clients’ trusted reputation, you’ll start attracting new opportunities organically.

---

Your clients’ networks are full of potential leads, and when you learn how to leverage those connections, your brand can grow faster, and with more credibility than ever before.

So start looking at every client project as a stepping stone.

You’ve already done the hard part – delivering great work.

Now USE that work to open more doors for you.

Best,
Jamie
