Contrary to what most freelancers think…
There’s more to getting a client to choose you than just your services or pricing.
Potential clients want to hire someone they trust, someone they feel connected to in some way.
And therefore they’re WAY more likely to choose a freelancer they can relate to, one who they feel not only understands their needs, but seems like a real PERSON and not just a faceless service provider.
Which is why building a personal brand is SO important…
The problem:
Pouring the bulk of your time and energy into selling your skills and fulfilling on projects, and not enough time making yourself relatable to potential clients.
The benefit of solving it:
Stand out as a freelancer and build deeper connections with potential clients right off the bat.
Why what you’ve tried has failed:
You’re too focused on the technical side of business and WHAT you do, and have been overlooking the HUMAN side of business that builds meaningful client relationships and sets you apart from competitors.
Here’s how to solve it:
Infuse your personality and your own personal touch into every part of your brand and business.
This is especially important for potential clients who are landing on your website or social media profile for the first time.
Don’t focus solely on showcasing your work or portfolio – share your story, your personality, and your values.
Potential clients connect with stories, and your story is a big part of building your brand and standing out from the crowd.
So make sure they see the person behind the business and show them the REAL YOU.
This could include adding a “Meet Me” section on your website where you talk about your journey to freelancing, including your struggles and successes.
Or it could mean sharing more personal updates and behind-the-scenes content on social media.
Be honest and share the challenges you’ve faced and how you’re overcoming them not only makes you relatable but shows that you’re resilient and resourceful – qualities clients appreciate in a freelancer!
And once you start communicating with potential clients, continue to build connections in your messages, first meeting, and even in your proposal and portfolio.
Don’t be afraid to be a little less formal and let your voice and personality shine through, whether you’re chatting about a project or responding to questions.
Ultimately, clients want to work with someone they can connect with, trust, and relate to…
And when you put an effort into infusing your personality into your brand, you’ll stand out in the crowded (mostly faceless) freelancing market, and build trust with potential clients faster as well!
Best,
Jamie
